Mid-afternoon the bleachers collapse. Middle of the night the ambulance shows up.

A major lesson in wave/vibration resonance. Isn’t that why foot soldiers always broke cadence on pontoon bridges?

The original Tacoma Narrows Bridge was nicknamed “Galloping Gertie” One of the architectural consultants went on to be the chief engineer of the Golden Gate Bridge.
There are now two bridges similar in style, but with a more rigid deck linking Tacoma with Gig Harbor and beyond. The most recent opened in 2007.
