Hamass Suspends Indirect Prisoner Swap Talks With Israel
7/4/2008
RAMALLAH, July 4 (KUNA) — Hamas has suspended its indirect negotiations with Israel, with Egyptian mediation, over the prisoner swap in exchange for the release of Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit, held by the movement’s factions in Gaza.
In a press release on Friday, Hamas spokesman Fouzi Barhoum said that Hamas had stressed from the first day of the truce that Shalit’s release was a separate issue.
He said Israel had not shown commitment to the truce, as crossings remained closed and goods and fuel were not allowed into Gaza Strip.
He demanded that Egypt pressure Israel into abiding by the conditions of the truce.
Yesterday, Israel closed down Gaza’s crossings for the third time since the truce came into effect on June 19, after a Palestinian missile fell over Negev.
