July 16th, 2008 at 6:44 pmFictitious Press Release…”The cause of the crash that took the lives of 15 Russian Military Personal was a stress failure of the helicopter’s front landing gear and a video of the previous takeoff is being reviewed.”

They aren’t all that roomy. There are no seats in back, just a slick.
An infintry squad with gear would be pretty damned tight.

July 16th, 2008 at 10:09 pmthey can fit about 20-24 people in there…i’ve seen this helicopter packed with about 45 people, like sardenes in a can, but it still took off…if properly maintained these Mi8s will last forever, and they are cheap too, some NATO special forses use them as well, cause they can take-off and land at 4,500-5000 m
July 16th, 2008 at 11:00 pmGotta keep them blades from hitting the ground. It is an interesting way to take off. I’ve been on UH-1’s that leaned forward almost as far before hitting the sky from the top of a hill. Its all about the pilot and his mastery of his machine.
The MI-8 seems like a good utility helicopter. Perfect for the Afghanis and Iraqis.
