Report: Iran Produces “Quick Reaction” Tanks
TEHRAN, June 30 (Xinhua) — Iran has launched a production line for superior “Quick Reaction” tanks as part of the country’s campaign for self-sufficiency in defense, Iran’s English-language Press TV said on Monday.
Iran has successfully started the production of a “Quick Reaction” tank named “Tosan”, Head of the self-sufficiency unit of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) ground forces, Colonel Nasser Arab-Beigi was quoted as saying.
“Military equipment needs to be upgraded in accordance with the latest developments in global technology,” said Arab-Beigi, adding that the current situation calls for a significant enhancement of the country’s defense capacity.
The self-sufficiency unit is also working on projects to enhance passive defense systems and secure the country’s military sites, he said.
He also warned that every enemy move in the Gulf and on Iranian borderlines is under the full surveillance of the IRGC forces.
The United States and its allies have accused Iran of trying to develop nuclear weapons under the cover of a civilian nuclear program. Iran has denied the charges, insisting that its nuclear program is for peaceful purposes only.
The administration of U.S. President George W. Bush has said it focused on diplomacy to try to resolve Iran’s nuclear issue, but also proclaimed it will take “no option off the table.”
Some observers believe it is possible that the United States and Israel would attack Iranian targets over Tehran’s suspicious nuclear program.
The New York Times has reported recently that U.S. military believed a major military exercise by Israel in early June was a rehearsal for a potential bombing attack on Iran’s nuclear sites.
These tanks won’t help them one bit. I bet an F-18 with a load of Maverick’s can hustle ass on over and nail them dead before these so called quick reaction tanks get 1/2 way to anyplace. What a joke.
July 2nd, 2008 at 6:07 amThese cats obviously haven’t read about Israel’s performance during the Yom Kippur & Six-Day War.
July 2nd, 2008 at 6:17 amWhoopie they have opened a production line that will produce what 1 a year. Why does this squeaky wheel get so much grease(MSM coverage)when in reality its a wheel that has rusted tight? Heres a reality check for Iran:

For a country big on words they are surrounded by countries that would rather see them vaporized.Even their supposed allies(Syria) would turn on them in a hot minute.
Mmmmmm, more prey for the Warthogs!
July 2nd, 2008 at 7:09 amAnd their new tanks have a 5-speed transmissions…….1 forward and 5 reverse.
How do you blow up an Iranian tank?……..put it in the battlefield.
July 2nd, 2008 at 7:54 am“Quick Reaction” sounds like something that sacrifices protection for speed, much like the tank destroyers of WWII. If they didn’t scoot after shooting, they found themselves at the mercy of the kraut panthers (which was probably the Abrams tank of its day) and tigers.
I can already tell from the picture above that the angle on the frontal arc (including glacis plate and mantlet) are flawed. Hell, the treads aren’t even protected by side skirts; just aim for the treads with a HEAT round, and you have it immobilized; no need to waste a APFSDS-T (aka “silver bullet”) round on ‘em.
July 2nd, 2008 at 8:34 amGrrrrrrr Grrrrrr Grrrrrrrr ….. 1 little 2 little 3 little tankies … Grrrrrr Grrrrrr Grrrrrrr 4 little 5 little 6 little tankies ….. Grrrrrr Grrrrrr Grrrrrrr 7 little 8 little 9 little tankies Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
10 little piles of scrap!
July 2nd, 2008 at 8:37 amGood points.
Of course, if all I ever learned about the military was from watching Platoon (like your average jouralist), I might be impressed.
The Iraniacs may as well build inflatable tanks like we used in the deception plans before D-Day. They’ll be about as effective in combat, and won’t cost nearly as much.
