Late one hot summer night as we slept we heard someone squealing around that bend, and then the loud crash.
My Daddy jumped out of his bed and met the neighbor guy outside … They hurried down our road to find the accident.
The guy had hit the end of the guard rail head-on … The metal rail traveling through the full front of his car, and wrapping around his leg.
By the time the fire department got there they figured they would amputate the poor man’s foot in order to free him from his car for transport to the hospital because they didn’t have anything to cut him free.
My Dad insisted they wait while he ran back to our garage, got his metal saw, and came back to cut free the man with the section of guard rail that was acting as a tourniquet around his leg. I believe the docs were able to save the guys’ foot and leg …
