Standing on the beach
With a gun in my hand
Staring at the sea
Staring at the sand
Staring down the barrel
At the Arab on the ground
I can see his open mouth
But I hear no sound
I’m alive
Not dead
I’m the stranger
Killing an Arab
I can turn
And walk away
Or I can fire the gun
Staring at the sky
Staring at the sun…
…Then I feel the steel butt jump
Smooth in my hand
Staring at the sea
Staring at the sand
Staring at myself
Reflected in the eyes
Of the dead man on the beach
I’m alive
Not dead
I am the stranger
Killing an Arab

Botnets Receive Orders, Attack
NEW YORK - Attacks by Russian hackers against Georgian Web sites, including one hosted in the United States, continued Tuesday even as Russian President Dmitri Medvedev ordered a halt to hostilities against Georgia.
Tom Burling, acting chief executive of Atlanta-based Web-hosting firm Tulip Systems Inc., said the Web site of the president of Georgia was the target of a flood of traffic from Russia aiming to overwhelm the site. Burling said bogus traffic outnumbered legitimate traffic 5000 to 1 at president.gov.ge.
“Literally, our people aren’t getting any sleep,” Burling said.
The U.S.-based Shadowserver Foundation, which tracks Internet attacks, said they had noticed commands to attack Georgian sites being issued over the weekend to “botnets,” or networks of computers that have been surreptitiously subverted by hackers. The computers are used to send bogus traffic to targeted sites, slowing them or in some cases bringing them down.
The same botnets are also targeting Russian news sites and the Web site of Gary Kasparov, the Russian chess player and political activist, according to Steven Adair at Shadowserver.
On Monday, hackers took over the Web site of Georgia’s parliament and replaced it with an image that drew parallels between Georgian president Mikhail Saakashvili and Adolf Hitler, Adair said.

Georgian President: Only McCain had the judgement to know it was coming.
Saakashvili said the U.S. and West underestimated Russia’s regional ambitions and warned that “America’s reputation here, since (the) Cold War, is going to hell now.”
“We have been warning them a large scale Russian invasion is coming,” Saakashvili said. “(The) State Department told us the Russians are not going to do that.”
The U.S.-educated Saakashvili credited Republican presidential candidate John McCain with predicting Russia’s real intent.

So I had to join the Writers Guild Of America to write the screenplay for “Pat Dollard’s Wars” at Twentieth Century Fox. My co-writer is Evan Wright, who wrote the book and an episode of “Generation Kill”. Had to join, no choice, or couldn’t be hired. Costs over 2 grand to join.
There’s a section in the membership application where you get to pick a pseudonym if you want your script credited as such, instead of your real name.
I chose Jihadi Killer. A few weeks later I got this email from the Guild:
From: Patrick Cannon, WGA
Subject: pseudonym
Date: July 2, 2008 11:49:05 AM PDT
To: pdollard@mac.com
Hi Pat–
The pseudonym that you included in your membership application– Jihadi Killer– has been determined by the Credits department to be “unreasonable.” As a result the name can’t be registered by the Guild and used for credits purposes.
If you’d like to register a different name, or if you’d like clarification of the policy please let me know.
Patrick Cannon
Assistant Administrator, Membership Department
and I responded with this:
From: pdollard@mac.com
Subject: Re: pseudonym
Date: August 13, 2008 1:49:05 PM PDT
To: Patrick Cannon, Writers Guild of America
What I’d like to know is the official WGA definition of “unreasonable”. Jihadi is the contemporary, self-given name for an Islamic terrorist. Is the credit department pro-terrorist and finds the killing of them “unreasonable”? Who would be opposed to killing terrorists, or to find the act unreasonble? Should I feel guilty for killing some? Maybe we can all meet over chai and hash it out.
10:49 P.M.
More on the saga of whether or not the Writer’s Guild of America will let me use Jihadi Killer as a pseodonym for anything I write for stage or screen or internet, I think, I don’t know. But I’m going to run the whole thing in the morning when we’s gots more folks on.
Just getting back to the glowing hell-screens of all that is new around the world, have no idea what’s going on, but I’ll check.

Rage. It can come in a second, and it brings a category 5 Hurrican if it’s been brewing. it can come at any second, any hour of the day.
Worthless when the target isn’t in sight.

August 13th, 2008 at 5:17 amif this isn’t a shot across our bow by russia,i don’t know what is.
August 13th, 2008 at 5:42 amgeorgia is as strong an ally to the u.s. as israel.i fear if we don’t stand with the georgians in some real fashion,we are surely going to lose big dog status.if that happens, pack mentality takes over.all the little dogs are going to fall in with the “perceived” big dog.
in south florida we have an old saying-”you’re either a gator or gator bait”.being a veteran,i know we can’t “invade” russia but we do have a navy and air force that wouldn’t mind getting a little exercise knocking those fucking tanks back a few miles.and i’m sure, the georgians wouldn’t mind a few of our “superior” aircraft flying around in their airspace.
for those not paying attention or don’t know their history, this is the same fucking shit hitler pulled in ww2 with poland.i really hate to say this but it may be time to go all out.that,or stay on the porch till the rest of the dogs have fallen in with the new alpha dog.
Now this is interesting. According to my local paper, there is an underground, Cold War-era, FEMA built, diesel-fuel storage tank slowly leaking somewhere here in Pensacola. The article also goes on to talk about how there are thousands more of these things scattered around the country. I wonder what else is out there? Anyway, pretty interesting article.
Cold War-era fuel tank may be leaking

Here’s the website for John Ringo, the guy I mentioned during the radio show:
http://johnringo.com/
His Ghost/Kildar series is the one where much of the action takes place in Georgia. Ghost, the original book of the series, actually started out as something he wrote just to get it out of his head so he could go on to writing books that he’d already been paid for.
It was really pure id, just spewed out to clear his mind. He was actually horrified that so many people liked it when he posted a snippet online. The protagonist (hero isn’t the right word) is Mike Harmon, aka Ghost, a bad man who chooses to fight on the side of the angels, so to speak. Sheep kind of people tend to be horrified when they read it, but for the sheepdog type, they’re like, “I know that guy. I served with that guy.”
When he got talked into making a series, he created the Keldara as a way to kind of redeem the series.
This is what John Ringo says about this review:
Quote:
“There is a VERY good review of Ghost, Kildar and Choosers over at this link:
http://hradzka.livejournal.com/194753.html?format=light
Let me say in advance that I agree totally and unashamedly. I even posted a comment saying so.
Very much worth reading. Go give the guy some click throughs.
(’He collects hookers like CATS!’)
:-)”
/Quote
Bear in mind that most of Ringo’s other books are much more ‘traditonal’ sci-fi/fantasy, especially military sci-fi, and not nearly as twisted. Although some of his books, especially the more recent ones, have glimmers of his dark side.
I’m also a big fan of Tom Kratman, David Weber, David Drake (he and Ringo have a good-natured rivalry; characters based on the other author have died horribly in each other’s books), Michael Z Williamson, Eric Flint, S.M. Stirling, and George R.R. Martin (The Imp is one of my favorite characters ever).

thought this was an interesting read.
August 13th, 2008 at 9:10 amMy dad (he prefers El Rushbo and listens to Hannity on the way back from work, unless there’s a game on) warned me years ago that Michael Savage is a crackpot, and I too now believe this to be true. Ever since the 2004 election, he’s been putting down the President every chance he gets (my theory is that he’s jealous that President Bush has been on other radio shows, but not his). He frequently insults other radio hosts, even salivating when Rush Limbaugh got in trouble for the painkillers (not sure if this is for his ratings, or he has real malice for them). He predicted The Surge would be a total failure, only dramatically increasing American casualties.
But what finally convinced me that he’s not credible: he has taken the side of the Russians against the Georgians! Last night, on the way back from a beer run, I caught his show, and he was giving the line that the Russians were just “protecting their interests;” really? Is the deliberate killing of civilians “protecting their interests?” He also went on to say that Putin was a better Commander-in-Chief than Bush, saying the Russian soldiers were able to do what it would have taken us to do in a much longer time! Last time I checked, our brave troops conquered Baghdad in a mere 19 days, “Mr. Savage!” Finally, he said there was a poll on his site asking, “Would Vladimir Putin make a better President that the current candidates?” However, I didn’t see such a poll, but he obviously thought Putin would be better than McCain or Obama.
So yeah, screw Michael Savage, I enjoy Limbaugh-Beck-Hannity more anyway.
There is no doubt in my mind that the Georgians are the innocent victims of Russian atrocities.

August 13th, 2008 at 9:23 amI had read about this guy in other places but this is the first time I’ve read anything revealing his location. I hope he doesn’t lose his life for his stand but I expect he will. Anybody in the SD area want to volunteer to guard him? …Might get a shot at some quality targets around him. May God protect him.
Putins’ Ploy? Test the US. Wonder if international law will be changed from this. Let’s see, that’d mean the illegal/legal immigrents in the US could try and cecede a state or two, and the Mexican or Canadain Military could back them. I recall when the Freeman in Montana tried to cecede, that brought the most federal troops into the state since the 1930’s. Georgia may be doing the same….but against a Russian bear.
August 13th, 2008 at 10:59 amAnderson - dittos on Mike Savage. I think he’s a little wacked out. His only friend appears to be a poodle. He does cuss out my president and my country. We don’t oppress women so he condemns us as perverts. If he’s conservative he needs a thought adjustment.
August 13th, 2008 at 12:00 pmIs that a new genre of poetry? It’s definitely compelling.
Videos 3 and 4: Exhaust fumes from the jets?
There’s always a chance that Russia will, like Saddam Hussein, use chemical weapons as warfare. They took money from Washington in the 1990s to ostensibly destroy their chemical weapons stock, but were accused of using it to conduct “further research into chemical weapon warfare.”
Makes sense to me. We’re dealing with liars who hate the West and want to destroy us. First, they want our money. Oh, they’ve already got that.
August 13th, 2008 at 2:13 pmI wonder if this might be the new weapon the Iranians were talking about awhile ago. The article says it was develobed between China and Iran.

Heh! Let us know how they respond.
I was flipping through the channels and came across Generation Kill. Within two minutes the Marines shoot up a car full of civilians. I won’t be watching it again. Same thing happened when I tuned in to PBS’s WWII documentary, only it was about how horribly we treated Japanese living in America. I haven’t watched PBS since, and I’m about to cancel my HBO subscription. If they come out with a series worth watching, there’s always torrents.
BTW, the President of Russia is on Glenn Beck.
Fuck Shepherd Smith. Why doesn’t he go to MSNBC where he belongs?
August 13th, 2008 at 3:07 pmPresident of Georgia, I mean. My mistake.
August 13th, 2008 at 3:08 pmMy first comment seems to have been caught by the spam filter. I guess it’ll show up eventually. What the above one refers to is that the President of Georgia, Mikheil Saakasvili, is on Glenn Beck.
August 13th, 2008 at 3:10 pmTTB and ASW
I came to the conclusion that Savage is almost certainly a plant from the Libtard Left propped up to make the rest of us on the Right look stupid. I think it was MSNBC that gave him a show and within weeks he managed to make a total fool of himself, including wishing that one caller would get aids and die.
August 13th, 2008 at 4:01 pmThere are many better sources for news and info. I wish somebody who has skill in that area would check to see if money from Soros or one of his front groups is keeping Savage on the air.
Pat I’m looking forward to hearing their reply to your message you sent back to them. You worded that perfectly.
August 13th, 2008 at 4:06 pmNice response Pat, looking forward to how pathetic their reply will be.
August 13th, 2008 at 4:31 pmHow many other people have looked at a map of Georgia? It is bordered by mountains north and south, with a large valley running east from the Black Sea containing most of the useful land and population.
If it had control of it’s own territory, it’d be almost as hard to invade as Switzerland. But, by using terrorist proxies and ‘peacekeepers,’ Russia had a clear road all the way to the heart of the country. Gori is like Bastogne in the Battle of the Bulge, the center of gravity (the schwerpunkt, to quote Clausewitz). The Black Sea ports to the west, Tbilisi and the oil fields to the east, and South Ossetia to the north.
Any reinforcements sent to Tbilisi by land or sea must pass through Gori. The capital’s main supply route is now via air. While not insurmountable, that puts them at a major disadvantage. Add in the fact that Russian fleet is blockading the coast, and the Georgians are well and truly fucked, no lube, and not so much as a reacharound.
Amateurs study tactics. Professionals study logistics. Watch for two things. First, American troops in Tbilisi. If the Russians try to plow through them, Javelins and SFWs will demolish their armor.
Second, and this is what will determine the final outcome, is what the US Navy does. If we break the blockade and land troops (ours or someone else’s; Ukraine, maybe, although that’d be a major escalation) on the coast. The supply lines across the highway are much easier to maintain than the one from Russia through that one, oh so vulnerable tunnel under the mountains.
Whatever happens, when the winter snows shut down the mountain passes, combat will slow to a crawl, and how things stand when that happens is likely to be how the lines on the map are defined when all this is over.
I really hope we take back everything all the way to the Russian border. Giving Putin a black eye now will save a lot of innocent blood later. Make no mistake, the Caucuses are Central Europe in 1938. Ukraine is Poland 1939. Hitler didn’t plan for war with the West until into the 1940s. If he hadn’t overplayed his hand, and given Germany time to fully rearm, WWII might have been a whole different animal.
Give Putin another decade, and who knows how much more powerful the Russian military will be? And how many allies will he have? China is staying out of things for now, waiting to see where America stands. If they decide we’re a paper tiger, how long before they decide to team up with Russia and kick us out of the Eastern Hemisphere?
