3:00 A.M.
12:56 P.M.
Good News: Out with several Marine friends I hadn’t seen in awhile last night, and got my first 8 hours sleep in about three months.
Bad News: Just woke up.
1:23 P.M.
You know what’s fucked up? What’s fucked up is how many people think that an Iraq vet is almost assuredly crazy, damaged goods. Too many vets have to deal with this attitude in situations of both little and great consequence, emotionally, legally, socially, and in terms of employment.
The video below…Bring the Boys Back Home…this time we are, and are doing it in victory, instead of having followed the Dems and gotten it wrong, and had to go back later and do it again.
But when they are back, treating them appropriately is more than a mouthed thank-you and a lifted beer, should you find yourself actually involved with a vet in any significant way. Family, friend, employer, spouse, co-worker, teacher, whatever. And it’s not about kissing their ass either. It’s just about the minutes of listening. A vet may not be “damaged goods”, but they often have struggles readapting to a peaceful but more complicated world. And probably more often with regard to the vets who have seen and endured the worst of it, they are not readapting but actually adapting to it for the first time, because the adult civilian world is a world they have yet to understand, let alone conquer, because the grunts are so very young. Many have children they’ve never seen, or only seen for a few months over the course of a couple years. It’s a good thing to hear what is on a vets mind, if one’s in your life. They are unique. And neither you or them are perfect, I don’t think. Which is one reason they say patience is a virtue, I suppose.
And what a lot of you don’t understand is that the life in the worst of it out there, for the grunts patrolling hell from small forward bases and op’s, was the life of being a hunted prey, 24/7. Yes, 24/7. Just ask them.
They may not want to tell you many things, and that should be respected, but you can also remind them that you are tough too, and can take a lot of what they may have to say.
Aaaargh! Must sleep……
August 2nd, 2008 at 2:36 amSee you all tomorrow.
Ok so why does everyone still use Internet explorer? ever tried firefox? its supposed to be way more secure and it takes less system memory. IE slows my comp down compared to the other. Just wondering because of all the trouble people had with it yesterday and the whole site meter thing.

August 2nd, 2008 at 7:24 amJust noticed the fund raising thread is gone.
Does this mean the goal has been met?
August 2nd, 2008 at 8:10 amChad, sitemaster lurking in the background, recommended firefox, I have been using it for a couple of years. Some IE specific stuff occasionally gets goofy, very rare though.
Faster and lighter than ie.
It also has a spell check built in so I can look like I gradeated the 6th grade.

Just about completed the mission.
Good job.
Some changes, but not Earth-shattering.
Tell you more later.

you have to read this. seriously this is the dangerous attitudes we’re dealing with regarding Iran and the war on terror in general.
Brian Williams of NBC just got back from Tehran after interviewing Ahmedinejad. says Iran is no threat. he is just playing to his base with all these threats. no different than an American politician.

August 2nd, 2008 at 12:21 pm1:23 pm - Dollard, Perfectly said. I volunteer at a VA Hosp. A few times I took some friends with me. After observing some friends interaction, I decided not to take anymore friends until I had several training sessions with them on interaction with veterans.
One of the reasons that brought me to that decision was, I noticed if they interacted with a veteran - they (the friend) didn’t listen much, they were more interested in fixing the veterans problems. To which the veterans would shut down and just want them to go away.
You’re right…listening is very much needed and appreciated. Also I’ll add, honor them by keeping it confidential.

August 2nd, 2008 at 2:11 pmYes bring the boys back home.
They are not superhumans themselves, they may have done things and bore burdens that may make them seem like that, but they are just sons, husbands, fathers, brothers, friends who need what anybody else needs, a shoulder, an ear, and unconditional love and support as they move on with their lives.
August 2nd, 2008 at 2:25 pm….
Us and them
and after all we’re only ordinary men
me and you
God only knows it’s not what we would choose to do
12:56 P.M.:
Insomnia’s a bitch. I’ve had it as long as I remember.
****************************
Okay, I went to the Gathering of Eagles counter-demonstration of the hippies ‘No War In Iran’ event in Times Square. They weren’t actually in Times Square, but what the hell.
It got ugly. And I’m not just talking about the hygienically challenged.

August 2nd, 2008 at 4:18 pmPat:
Sometimes you just have to take a deep breath, push yourself away from your desk/laptop/office/job, go for a long walk, and sort your thoughts out.
Driving yourself into a heart attack or breakdown won’t do anybody good.
I find going to the range and then going to the bar does wonders on my outlook. Just make sure you don’t go to the bar and THEN go to the range.

one of your pictures stood out to me. It was a protester holding a sign that said
‘Money for Groceries and Gas!’ ‘Not War!’
that is their sense of entitlement coming out i guess. the government sure doesn’t give me money for gas and groceries. nor do i expect them too. kind of a stupid and revealing sign.
looked like a great event. wish i could have been there with you and the GOE

August 2nd, 2008 at 6:25 pmWatched Shark Week on the Discovery channel tonight.
Big fucking mistake.
Cuban divers trained wild Bull Sharks to not attack humans.
They did this by regularly “hand feeding” them bait fish.
These cocksuckers have the sharks hooked on the “free hand out”.
We’re screwed when even sharks have been turned into socialistic entitlement leeches.
Excuse me while I bask in the taste of my own fucking bile!
We’re gonna need a bigger boat.

———————————————————–
THAT is EXACTLY the reason there are so many shark attacks in the last few years, especially in the Virgin Island areas and Florida …
Hand-feeding sharks does make them more apt to approach humans … DUH!!!
And it’s NOT just the Cubans. These fishing and tourist boats that go out and chum the water or intentionally feed the sharks to get them near for the catch or for the tourists to gasp over and take pictures …
So, not surprised the jack-assed commie Cuban mindset THINKS it can tame the sharks this way. Look what they’ve done to Hollywood, eh?
August 2nd, 2008 at 8:39 pmI want to see one of those Commie idiots hand feed one of the “Men in Gray Suits” (Great White)while in the water with him and outside of a shark cage.
At the risk of being a materialistic weasel, I’m thinking pay-per-view.

I’m a big fan of the natural world.
God made it first for a reason.
Through It, he gives us the answers to every question we can conceive of,
(if we’re smart enough to recognize).
Kung Fu scratches the surface of this concept.
Theres only two examples of successful communism in the natural world.
Ants and Bees.
Why have they been prosperous for millions of years?
Because there’s NO free will amongst the individuals.
They’re Earth’s perfect ROBOTS, no free will, no SOULS.
No senesce of self, Oh, and they’ve got too many fucking legs.
Individuals carry out pre-determined functions and nothing more.
The lesson I’ve learned from God’s natural world concerning communism:
Communism: Good for soulless robots.
Communism: Bad for Human Beings.
Make your own comparisons between liberals and soulless robots.
August 2nd, 2008 at 9:50 pmI already have.

“You enter [Iran] and you see what sanctions do….Where we’re staying in what used to be a Hilton until the revolution, and it has just gone to hell.” (Brian Williams to Jon Stewart)
It’s not sanctions that are destroying Iran. It’s the government. In the 1970s, after paying for armaments, “Iran had a reserve of $12 billion in foreign currency.” (Answers to History by Mohammad Reza Pahlavi)
August 2nd, 2008 at 10:37 pmSHARK
I see that going the way that feeding the bears in Yellowstone Park, they got so aggressive they band feeding them from your cars, then they had to close the garbage dumps the foraged. It took a generation for them to revert to wild feeding habits. Smae with the Park Elk. I remember artilces of feeding the Elk hay by air drops in the winter. Then the ovepopulation finally ended that practice…recall many starved carcasses along the rods after that. Now it’s almost back to normal for the Eld. Bison, no more air drops for them either, had hunters manage their numbers until the Bison huggers turned that back over to government hunters. I always thought the Bison huggers should have been made to “adopt a buffalo” if they were so concerned about them. But, that would mean they would have to feed and take care of them…not the tax payer.
Could this be the way of the liberal human? When they get to a point of free chow getting scarce, they will get aggressive and demand perks to where they’ll take a shark bite from the hand that feeds it…then the government cut off that will wipe out about half of them as their beloved chairman Mao estimated for China.
August 3rd, 2008 at 8:18 amI stumbled across your site on today’s post and read it in it’s entirety and the very last parts certainly did pertain to me or at very least I think so…
Many have children they’ve never seen, or only seen for a few months over the course of a couple years. It’s a good thing to hear what is on a vets mind, if one’s in your life. They are unique. And neither you or them are perfect, I don’t think. Which is one reason they say patience is a virtue, I suppose. They may not want to tell you many things, and that should be respected, but you can also remind them that you are tough too, and can take a lot of what they may have to say.
What happens to those that have children or a child on the way and want no absolutely no part of said child, Even when the other parent is open to it and keep in mind not demanding anything of them i.e financial, emotional support or even a rekindled relationship but rather a friendship as 2 adults who together have made an innocent child?
When the other person is willing to listen and can handle whatever is said yet the returning vet has nothing to say?
I agree neither is perfect and patience truly is a virtue! But when is enough, enough? When do you say ok I’m walking away when you’re ready to talk/accept what’s going on then I’ll be here?
And I know this is not a support site, But if anyone can answer those questions it’s someone who’s been there and can help us that haven’t!
I think I’ll read in here more often, There are some interesting facts & life lessons.
