Dollard Nation Poll: Are You Willing To Go To War With Russia Over Georgia?

August 11th, 2008 Posted By Bash.

1

Simple enough question for a very complex issue. Now, I have a theory on this and it’s only a theory, but I believe at least part of what the Russians are doing has to do with putting the squeeze on the West via this oil pipeline in an effort to gain some leverage with regards to Iran’s nuclear program, as the Russians have so much invested in the Iranian nuke program via contracts and building and the reciprocation of oil from Iran.Just a hunch, but chime in on the main question, and feel free to toss your theory out there as to why in the hell Russia is doing what they are doing.

If they don’t lay off one of our allies….yes. Russia will blink, they know they aren’t ready for a war with us yet.

  2. Doug

Yes, and I will enlist tomorrow if it happens.

  3. Mr. Rinehart

FUCK YEAH. And I agree with Doug. I would also enlist if things started to get hot and heavy with the Russians.

  4. Paslode

    I ‘Green Light’ it.

My feeling all this has to do with Iran, the ABM’s Oil and the Election.

    1. As you said, Russia has much incested in Iran.
    2. Russia doesn’t want the ABM system in Europe.
    3. Russia wants to control Europes oil.
    4. If the US strikes the Anti-war movement gets another bone to pick at, which could swing the election in BHo’sfavor. Russia wouyld rather deal with BHo than McCain. favor.

  5. Caligula

    yes

but it is not a good idea considering afghanistan and pending war with iran.

i believe if we get involved AND iran strikes israel and we are forced to get involved there too, we run the risk of a hot war with too many fronts.

  6. Poe

    Already said as much.

Its the right thing and a no brainer, which is why our government wont do a fucking thing.

  7. Ryan

In WWII Patton said we should fight until we hit Moscow, and he was right, this conflict is probably long overdue.

  9. drillanwr (Free Ramos and Compean, Then Drill For Oil!)

At the VERY least we need to send them arms and war machines … all that we can spare …

As to war with Russia … Bomb the shit out of them.

WE have Star Wars … heh!

    Doug and Mr. Rinehart

You make me proud! :gun:  :gun:

  10. warenosei

even considering the complications, it should be done. where is the screaming by all the anti war people, russia is doing what the US has been accused of over these years. Nothing…..

    unfortunate circumstances.

  11. Gramps

War with Russia is a frighting thought, but at some point you have to draw the line as JFK did in Cuba.

  12. sierrahome

Don’t meet me there…beat me there.

  13. TerryTate

I think we should, except that this is an obvious attempt to draw us away from any confrontation with Iran. If they want us to attack, then that gives me a second of pause to consider what other options are available, so that we can stay out of a potential trap. If we can handle both threats we should act as soon as possible. I’d go also.

  14. AZ Patriot

Where is the plane or ship? I’ll go, as for the reason, the only reason I need is to know that my Christian brothers and sisters are suffering at the hands of an evil empire. What more of a reason do I need than that?

This has been bugging me so badly it’s hard to sleep. Like the Georgians I’m tired of hearing the lip service coming from their allies, when what they really need to hear and see is that their allies are boarding planes and ships and heading their way.

As for Russia’s intentions well personally I don’t see them stopping until they have retaken Georgia, Armenia and Azerbaijan, and then they will side with Iran, Syria and Ethiopia in an attack against Israel.

But that’s just my personal beliefs.

  15. Lloyd Bailey

    Yes. Count me in.

  16. Paslode

Get me an age exclusion and I will be you all the recruiter office.

  17. American Verm

Don’t go hot on the ground. Announce that Nato will be taking over the sky over Georgia proper to protect the “civilians”. This will protect the pipeline and draw a line in the sand. Have all modern AF fighters available in Iraq ready to take on the Ruskies if they want war. Red Dawn is back brothers.

  18. fiftycal

    Are fuckin nuts? Hell NO!!

  19. Steve Rogers

This is exactly why the Georgians and Ukranians want NATO membership.

  20. American Verm

This is exactly why the Euro’s didn’t want Georgia in Nato…they would HAVE to do something.

  21. PDizzle

We should deploy some QRF units as peacekeepers and tell the Commies, in no uncertain terms, that it they shoot one of our guys, it will be considered an act of war against the United States, and by extension, NATO.

  22. alex

Even though im not from the US i would more than happily enlist here in Australia or the US.only problem is our leftist PM probably would not send us there

  23. USNA1985

Hell Yea!!, Bring it Bitches!!! End them and the Iran problem. As our old friend Lehman once said, “In a war with the US Navy, the Soviet, aka Russian, Navy would lead a short exciting life” And we are way better now than we were then.

  24. Chris, St. Petersburg

This is a global war and that is just a tactic. You want to counter Vladimir? Drill now, starting with Al Gore’s fat face. Russia knows perfectly well they have two generations’ worth of teachers and bureaucrats in our nation’s schools, telling us we need to behave in a certain way. They are laughing at us.

You want to counter Vladimir? Take out the Iranian nuclear facilities and take out everything the Iranians have, anywhere near the Straits of Hormuz.

Vladimir wants that second pipeline, so that he alone can control most of Europe. Having the Straits of Hormuz in his Iranian pocket gives him the rest of Europe, plus Asia. Having Chavez gives him Venezuela.

Equipping, training, and deploying troops to Georgia is a long-delaying tactic that he would love for us to spend time on. Making a strong statement towards energy independence and taking out the Mad Mullahs fucks Putin in a serious way.

  25. Avideditor

I think the jihadis are the real problem. I think we should bomb Iran now that we have a window of opportunity.

  26. alex

  27. myles

Georgia comes to our aid, and we are just letting there amry get wasted by the russians. fuck that!! Not many come to our aid, and those who do should be rewarded with mother green and her killin machine

I think a air and land defence with NATO ,for Georgia.
would be hard for even the libs to be Against.

  29. benji

i had a feeling that something like this was gonna happen. Putin awhile back was sending half ass threats our way about the missle defence stuff. maybe they are tryin to build back the old USSR. This kinda reminds me of Germany right before WWII.

  30. One Shot

After careful consideration, I would say that it is not worth risking a possible world war over. However, the Ruskies need to be punished economically so that the cost of this aggression hurts them deeply.”.

  31. American Verm

Anybody think that Russia was just a little concerned that the price of Oil was going down fast…like a bursting bubble? If that happens then they won’t have the money modernize the military. By controlling another pipeline they can artificially control the amount of oil on world markets…just me?

  32. jake

bomb bomb bomb, bomb bomb iran

  33. Allen TX

    One Shot
Quote: “After careful consideration, I would say that it is not worth risking a possible world war over. However, the Ruskies need to be punished economically so that the cost of this aggression hurts them deeply.”

The economic hardships that we put on Germany after WWI led to the rise of the Third Reich. I’m not trying to Godwin my way out of this but this aggression can not be allowed to stand. You can starve troops out of their will to fight, but you can’t starve a people. And economic sanctions would end up hurting the general population because the government would steal what they needed to ramp up their forces. It’s the USSR all over again.

  34. Mark Tanberg

Since when can we not handle multiple conflicts? I totally disagree with the “be affraid of the vote consequence” comments. The more serious the business the more serious the vote. Ask any lib faced with a draft to fight communist’s, if they would trust the helm to “pony boy” or the guy who was imprisoned by the communists.

Once again we paid for those F-22 pieces of crap now’s the time to see if they are really an air superiority tool or just a hood ornament for the USAF.

  35. EDinTampa

We have to contain this for sure. Georgia must not be allowed to fall. Others in the region MUST get involved as well.

If that brings Iran into the fray we’d have to destroy the Iranian regime, wouldn’t have time to piss around.

    We have to stand strong!

  36. Mike W

 American Verm: You got it.Tell the Russians that the air space over Georgia is off limits and enforce it and in the meantime start sending humanitarian aide to Georgia. Also release Israel on Iran. I really dont think many of the Arab nations will do anything more then issue condemnations while cheering them on.
    I would go.

I am willing to do whatever is necessary to stop, immediately, the actions of the Russian forces, NOW, before the capital falls. Bush’s delayed response may well have caused the death of this young democracy. I’m sick of all the global talk, and ashamed that our friend and ally, Georgia, is under attack. Fuck that old hag mutha russia.
    Commie Bitches.

  39. JonnyMordant (Typical NASCAR Fan)

Only if the road to Russia runs through Iran… Also the Russians handing over Nukes to Iran would have a devastating effect on the situation in the Middle East… Up till now it’s been a question of Iran producing Nukes, now there is the question of Nukes being supplied to Iran as a tactic by Russia to shield their boarders (of course Russia would soon find that they had made a terrible mistake if they were to do so)…

The Idea of a joint effort by European Union countries against Russia seems to be a better path to take tactically… I believe that EU forces could easily deal with Russia provided we offered them some help with the logistics (The U.S. learned a great deal about organizing attacks while directing Coalition Forces in Iraq and Afghanistan in it’s earlier stages)…

At any rate Iran is a central issue that must be taken into account… Any decision to do so would require strong military support from our allies… I think that is the determining factor and that there is plenty of evidence that our allies would provide that support…

    So put e down for a YES…

  40. David Marcoe

Yes. Georgia is our ally and Russia is attempting to annex a sovereign nation and depose a democratically elected government. We have to do SOMETHING. Maybe we can’t put boots on the ground, but there are plenty of other things we can do.

  41. GregGS

What’s the religious make up of georgia, after the west let kosovo and other break away country’s go moslem… that may have a hand in this maybe they want a clean shored up
strip of land between the black and caspian seas the east side of the black sea is a mumble jumble of a mess “Ossetians” “The Ossetians are mostly Christian with large Muslim minority.” Whatever that means??

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ossetians

  42. Mark Tanberg

To answer the question why Russia is doing this?
Putin wants to see the return of the Soviet era under his control.
Pushing the Georgians covertly with Russian separatists (thats how Hitler justified going into czechville that started WWII.

The USA is in the lame duck presidency time frame (we are weak politically) advantage Russia.

The world is watching the Olympics not Georgia.

The Liberals are seemingly going to place a very inexperienced candidate into the White house.

The world will let Putin do it.

  43. drillanwr (Free Ramos and Compean, Then Drill For Oil!)

bomb bomb bomb, bomb bomb iran
    ———————————————————

Yeah, tactically I’m thinking bomb Iran and watch Russia backdown …

  44. Eric A. Kossian

If the Georgians have shot down 4+ planes, imagine what USAF could do in short order. As soon as the sky is owned, Russia would have no choice but to back off. Russia has been planning this for a while as they have been issuing russian passorts in the two break away reagions for about a year on the pretext that they are defending “russians”. THis is really about oil as the pipeline from Tazikstan etc goes through Georgia. Russia wanted it to go Black sea where they could control, while Georgia, Israel and Britain - all part owners of the pipeline - want it going south thru Turkey to south Israel where is could be loaded on ships bypassing Suez. Russian was offered a stake in this pipeline but refused as they want full control.
I cna’t imagine Russia would not back off if we dominated the skies and gave dropped leaflets on the ground giving Ruskie troops 24 hours to leave or get wiped out from the air.

Putin wants to show the USA and Europe that they can’t put Georgia in Nato -
Where is the outcry for Russian tobe expelled from the Games and medals stripped for their actions?

  45. TBinSTL (just typical)

I wouldn’t be the one going to war since I’m too old anyway but I have to say, it’s not about going to war for Georgia, it’s about going to war for our own good name. If we leave our faithful ally and friend twisting in the wind, no other country will ever trust us again and I won’t blame them one bit.

  46. solomonpal

I say slam IRAN while there is a diversion. Tell the NATO allies be prepared to go it alone if they have to. We have other business. This is Russian Revenge for BILLY Boy’s adventure in Yugoslavia.

If they don’t back down, and pull back to their side of the border, unleash hell.

Strange, the link only works when cut and pasted into the address bar…

President Ronald Reagan’s words from August 11, 1984.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zv13ZnkpWos
“My fellow Americans, I’ve just signed legislation outlawing Russia forever. We begin bombing in five minutes.”

  50. Bob

    Yes,
We should get the new NATO members( East Europe ) to take the lead. Putin is a bully and needs to be punished. If Putin is allowed to control to flow of all energy to Europe he will blackmail Europe this winter as he has done in the past! Pres. Bush should restrict all Russian movement within the USA as we do for the Cubans! He could seize Putins assets and expel Russia from the Group of 8 and other International institutions. This is another reason why we should DRILL NOW! Russia is a totally dependent on oil and when oil is cheap Russia is feckless.

  51. Chris, St. Petersburg

 Greg, you should spend some time looking over Michael Totten’s dispatches from that part of the world, to get some insight into the religious aspects. They may not be what you think they are.

As to Israel taking on Iran, that requires tankers or forward bases (Turkey? Iraq?). Where is Israel going to be able to stage tankers between them and Iran? As to the USAF, F-22s over Georgia would require tankers. Where are we going to get those tankers? EADS (Airbus, the Northrup-Grumman bid) is part-owned by Russia. Maybe we can also ship troops over on Aeroflot.

Israel can’t take out Iran; we have to do it. I agree with closing the skies over Georgia, but think folks should consider why using Airbus as the platform for the next generation of tankers is a questionable choice (not, never have been a Boeing employee, nor family member).

  52. Gannon

    My feeling:
lets start by taking Cuba…I need the cigars and we will need to expand Guantanamo after we finish off Venezuela.

  53. Lee__

They only know and respect superior firepower….I’m sure the general staff have warplans for this….use them.

  54. Steve in NC

Do it. They are threatening to place bombers in Cuba. Let’s go sit on their border.

It would be good to do it proxy by arming the Georgians and include some ‘advisors’. Let them deal with some of our latest tech.

Direct conflict may not be in our best interest at this time, but it might be needed.

They are an ally, and we cannot let them succumb to the control of russia. We cannot let the soviet union reconstitute itself.

  55. John Moore

You’ve gotta be kidding! Those clowns have thousands of nukes aimed at us, in launch on warning status (just like during the cold war). Wars start out of miscalculation. Do you want to take that risk?

Russia has a big weakness. It no longer has a dominant ideology. The closest it has is Russian nationalism. Beyond that, the elites are motivated by greed.

Hence, it is frar better to economically sanction Russia (and yeah, in general, I don’t like economic sanctions). Russia is a fascist country run by mobsters - with both nationalist and profit motives. It is the largest organized crime outfit on earth, oh, and did I mention they have nukes [yeah, you did].

Putin et al are propped up by the new rich, themselves rewarded with stolen billions from former government assets. Put the hurt on those folks, which the Treasury department is very good at, and the Russkies (even with their oil) will have a problem.

Meanwhile, let’s get back to bomb bomb bomb, bomb bomb Iran…

    Oh, and SCREW RUSSIA

  56. Unbreakable

I love my country and I support freedom-loving countries all over the world (example Georgia). I abhor what is going on there. However, I am a firm believer that those who do not learn from the past are doomed to repeat it.

Let us not forget the lessons in Russia by the armies of Napoleon and Hitler. Sure, we can say, “But that won’t happen to us, this is different. We’re AMERICAN!” I think that would be the height of pride and folly. I’ll leave you with this quote from Napoleon, “Man proposes, but God disposes.”

In summary, I cannot justify supporting war with Russia.

  57. cclezel

Their military’s actions reveal some serious flaws. Their pilots were incapable of stiking a pipline, they lost anywhere between 2 to 10 of their pilots over georgia, there were reports that their troops got lost… Col. Peters had some very revealing information about all this. They will win purely by numbers but their efficiency is no where close to ours.

  58. The Angry Redneck

Did I hear they were going all the way to Atlanta via Savannah? Oh hell no!!! Russia attacking Georgia!

Hey, as far as I’m concerned a Georgian Redneck is a Georgian Redneck, no matter what part of the globe they are located! We need to come to their aid, they are ALLIES…that’s what we do. To me it’s like someone pickin’ a fight with my younger brother, don’t think I won’t kick your ass for it….

  59. dadeo

Fits right in with the Gog and Magog prophecy. It may may not matter what any of us really think or desire. The Russians are posturing for a world class ass whipping and may force us into a fight; like it or not.

Can any one imagine how we will fare during the comming world war with Hussein at the helm?

  60. goodbye natalie

If this is tied to Iran like I think it is, instead of picking a fight directly with Russia, why don’t we simply tell them back off or we will do the same to Iran and will not quit until every Russian asset is obliterated?

  61. Knottie

I don’t like it but I think we HAVE to. We ignored attacks on ourselves and our allies before and look where that got us. There is nothing more American or honorable than defending the oppressed and weak from evil.

  62. Rob

    warenosei

One of my great uncles designed the architecture for getting the UN to put pressure on Russia about the Missiles in Cuba. lol

And I’m all for the war. We know how “advanced” Russian military hardware is, I thought for sure I’d miss out on bagging me a Russian. I thought I’d have to settle for an Arab or Persian…now I can get all three

  63. Earlg

If we aren’t planning on leaving Iraq behind(and we’re not), then we aren’t or shouldn’t be leaving Georgia behind.

  65. Kurt(the infidel)

Yes i think we should do something to protect a friend and ally. they were with us in Iraq when many others were not. We do not need to sit back and watch another genocide take place.

    Fuck Russia!

  66. Freedom Defender

Bash, can you please provide me a copy or link to the photo of the Georgian soldiers praying with Orthodox Priest before battle. Thank You, Freedom Defender.

  67. Steve

Russia knows we cant do anything and they are right, we have Iran to worry about. Could be that Russia is doing this because they already KNOW we will do it to Iran. I dont think its a deal between Russia and the US, but a mutual understanding. You gotta do what you gotta do! Its a world war folks, and it wont end anytime soon. I hope the muslims piss China off during the olympics too, it may bring them to their senses and we could actually start getting help.

  68. EDinTampa

russia cannot go unchecked! we must stand with Georgia no doubt!

  69. Paul in Iowa

    Fuck yeah
If we dont bear any burden
    pay any price
    support any friend
    oppose any foe
    in the defense of LIBERTY
Then we are fucked as a nation and we should throw in the towel

I fear that this Bush will do what his father did during Tianmen Square — NOTHING!!

Send a fight of F-16s to AT LEAST defend Tblisi! Don’t be a repeat of your father’s failed presidency!
Both were by Iraq abd Bush41 flinched when his REAL TEST came.
How ironic that Bush43 was in China when his test came?

  70. Dr. Jerry

It is my perspective, that we prepare ourselves for some eventuality, that will include the United States at war against the Russians, in some form or fashion. Iran and some other proxies possibly included. But it has been the commie goal since the division of Berlin.

I say Hoo-rah! Lock and load. Let’s pull them smoke-wagons and get to work.

  71. frates aeterni

would I go to war? anytime anywhere!!!
you know, this makes me think…when I was in the Marine Coprs it was a rare sight to see guys with three combat action ribbons. never saw one with four. It is possible though. Golf War, Bosnia, Afghan, and Iraq. It is a awesome thing to consider…the USMC will be lead by some hard ass mo fo’s with a ton of trigger time. man, its going to be some tough bastards that Iran, Russia, North Koreans have to clash with someday.

  72. Bryan J

If we give the right weapons to Georgia they should be able to take apart the Russian Armor & Air Force. During the cold war the US spent millions on weapons to over come the armor advantage the Soviets had. Many of them are infantry mobile and easy to use. This could turn Georgia into another Afghanistan for the Russians.

We have to do something. If nothing is done Putin will move on to the next former state in his effort to return them back to Soviet power.

  73. 83delta

Take the air back–grind up armor/troops with A10s, leave a highway of death back to the border–the 100 hr. treatment.
The punk on the block just called BS on you GWB—
I smell a State Dept. BS operation in the wind.

  74. ji

Sorry we are stretched too thin. We will give them air power and weapons. No soldiers.
    Where is EUROPE???

  75. Erik Marsh

Bomb Iran’s nuke sights with the Navy and use the Marines to secure the strait.
Establish a no fly zone over Georgia.
And establish a Naval blockade of the Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean Ocean notifying Russia that all vessels will be searched, any found carrying weapons or implements of war shall be confiscated and if anyone tries to run the blockade they will be sunk.

  76. AZ Patriot

    Freedom Defender
All you need to know about Georgia in one place http://www.aboutgeorgia.net/

They are predominately a Christian/Jewish nation. Their country is named after Saint George, their flag is from the 13th century. The silver (white) background is a sign of innocence, chastity, purity and wisdom, while the red signifies courage, bravery, justice and love.

  77. RVN68MIKE

IF NOT NOW THEN WHEN WILL WE EVER RESIST RUSSIAN EXPANSION! TIME TO FIGHT!!!

  78. mike3481

It took me awhile but here it is…
    _____________________________________
Our Geeks (not a derogatory term) have got to be better than the Russian’s Geeks.

    I have to believe that…
    ………………………….

    So, here’s my prediction;

    When everything is in place it will include;

    1. An overwhelming Cyber warfare attack (that doesn’t target Russia’s economy).

    2. Air superiority over Georgia. (F-22’s?)

    3. Close Air Support for Georgian forces in Georgia. (A-10’s?)

    4. Then the “Fat Boys” take the stage, ie - B-52’s, B1B’s, B-2’s with full racks of the new 250lb SDB.

    5. Once #2 is achieved, tell that Mass-Murdering KGB ass-wipe Vladimir Putin what is about to happen to his Military and there’s nothing he can do to stop it.

  79. Mucasplug

No, but we should arm Georgia to the teeth, much like Israel. They have a small army, but it could be provided for in such a way that it would be horribly painful for anyone to mess with them. Its too late now, but if they survive this as a country it should be done so as fast as possible. This goes for the Ukraine as well. I am disappointed that the Ukraine did not offer more support to Georgia though.

  80. C-Low

I’m down. If Russia steals back Georgia they will seal the Stan’s and Ukraine, Baltic’s, E. Europe, etc will follow.

But in truth I don’t believe Russia wants or is even close to ready to roll with the big dog yet. I think if we sent in some ships and maybe even a contingent of ehhh “peace keepers” of the airborne type to Tiblisi Russia would cut a deal.

My estimate is Putty doesn’t want to take Georgia and get a new Chechnya (backed by US weapons), but instead he is trying to humiliate the Georgian president and prove US support hollow. Routing the Georgian forces and capturing Gori pressuring Tiblisi without taking it achieves that goal. Sending in the paratroopers to Tiblisi it would save the Georgian pres by justifying his US alliance and would show the US alliance as the ultimate safety.

Georgia made a mistake by jumping without coordinating first with US but that doesn’t mean we should allow Russia to grind them under.

The world should feel confident alliance with the US is worth more than just paper.

HONOR WORD BALLS is some of the few things a man or nation have in this world.

  84. deathstar

Get lemons, make lemonade. We should use the Russian attack as an oppurtunity to bleed and hurt them with minimal pain to ourselves. We can use our SF and arm the Georgian resistance. The tunnel to Russia can be destroyed. Soviet ships can be mined in black sea ports. Georgian sabatours with our support can attack Russian military targets through out Russia proper. You know those bear bombers Pooty Poot likes to send down Cuba way? Why not have Georgian resistance fighters shoot at then with MANPADS when the try to land at their home base? Russian nuke experts helping Iran? Have Georgian assasins kill them. The Russians are so incompetent that even goat fuckers have an easy time carrying out terror attacks in Russia. Think what damage well trained commandos could do.
If enough young Russian go home dead the Russians will turn on pooty just like they turned on the Soviets in the old days.

Georgia has stood behind us in Iraq. If Russia continues pouring troops and armor into Georgia we need to give an ultimatum or else we send in our Air Force fighters and A-10’s to control the airspace, shoot their planes down, and destroy their armor and troops.

We’ve been destroying Soviet armor with ease for decades now. It will not be a contest. Our Air Force is not doing much right now. Russia has 1200 planes in their arsenal. It won’t take long before their planes are dropping like flies from the sky. That will change their attitude.

These aren’t my opinions, I wish I could take credit for them, but I do agree with them. “To The Point” says we need to treat Georgia like we did Afganistan during the Reagan years: send them plenty of Stinger missiles and RPGs. Once they take out Russian airpower, they can be defeated on the ground. Georgia’s military is better trained than Afgani rebels..

Isreali media is apparently reporting that weapons slated for Iraq have been shipped to Georgia, beginning on Sunday.

We have to support Georgia, but a small American presence for training and strategic development would only be needed. Communists are like Islamoterrorists, they only understand and respect strength.

TTP also recommends seizing Putin’s 40 Billion in Swiss bank accounts. Heck, go to “To The Point” and read it for yourself. Lots of great stuff over there.

Russia had a well planned conflict ready to go when the time was right.
This takes attn. from Iran and thier nukes. Russia can take out an oil pipeline to the west, none of this will help U.S. economy.
Its time to turn Iran to rubble and push Russia back and show them they cannot push into an Allies country.

Will we stand by Georgia or not?

…more importantly, just HOW are we going to support them?

  97. American Infidel

I’ve read all of the different thoughts here and I can say without a doubt, I have no idea if we should or not help Georgia. I want with every fiber of my being to say yes and get in there and help them right now, but the thoughts here have given me much reason to realize I have no clue what to do.

I was talking with a friend of mine and suggested that we just nuke Iran and Russia both. To which I was told our atmosphere probably wouldn’t be able to handle all of the nukes we and the Russians would set off.

Then I found myself not having a clue as what we can do. I think we should help Georgia…they are one of our true allies in the Iraq war. To turn our back on them or to allow Russia’s invasion is so bad for us - I have no words. If we do not help them, why would we ever question another country doubting our honor again?

I understand our troops are in two different theaters plus one more here at home. I want to know what our troops say about this. Their words mean the most to me. What is their insightful wisdom about what they think should be done. And more specifically I’d like to know what is running through General Petraeus’ mind about this whole conflict.

But if we don’t help Georgia…is that a stain for us that will never come out? Is this how we treat friends? Do we just turn the cheek and pretend it doesn’t bother us? I think not.

To have a good friend - one must be a good friend! Friendship is a two-way street. They help each other! The false friendship is the one that is only concerned about themselves and look really hard for reasons to not help their friend in need.

Do we as Americans have balls or not? This is do or die time. What’s it gonna be?

Have we become so complacent that we can’t be inconvenienced by the truth?

It’s time to buck up Americans. It’s do or die. What do you choose?

  98. Alexander

I am completely ashamed that our country hasn’t already stepped up to defend one of our greatest allies. I would enlist today if we had the balls to do it.

  99. Dave M.

I say let’s not get sucked into Russia’s trap. They laid it for us.
The Russians want Iran to finish their nuclear weapons and they
want Iran to use those nukes on the USA.
Russia can’t use it’s nukes for the same reason we can’t use ours,
I believe it used to be called mutually assured destruction.
But Russia can get Iran to destroy maybe half a dozen American cities
and maybe London and Paris as well for good measure. The economic
damage will paralyze the West for a decade and let Russia secure
top dog status. Sure, Iran will get destroyed but they’re just
    “useful idiots” - that’s a KGB phrase.
Why Georgia now? Coz we’re about to hit the button on Iran and
Russia wants it stopped. They’re trying to back President Bush
    down, right here, right now.
This is an extremely dangerous time. If Hussein gets elected,
the kid could singlehandedly cause the downfall of the USA,
so nothing much should happen before Nov 4th. A lot of you
won’t agree and I support your YES vote.
It pains me to say this, but there is a very big strategy
here that Russia has just launched. We must not blow it
by letting Iran finish the nukes or electing Hussein.
Attacking Russia in Georgia lets Iran finish the nukes.
American Infidel sums up his call to help Georgia beautifully,
and I agree with AI, but the help has be on our terms, not on
    Putin’s.

  100. Joe

YES! They helped us out in Iraq, now they need our help. It’s fucked up that we aren’t doing anything.

  101. RustyB

I served in combat missions in Vietnam, 1971 while in the navy. Later I switched to Army Special forces teaching the good guys how to kill and stay alive. When I was forced from the battle field in Nam 1973, I was not happy to leave the very solderers we trained behind to be killed or captured.

Now we have Georgia, who is a good friend to the United States , sends 2000 solderers we trained to help us fight in Iraq. Yes we flew them back home to fight for their country, but I feel the same way I did in 73 that we should not leave them to the wolves.

It my opinion that we should bring in our special forces to continue training the Georgian troops in the field and act as field combat air control. Bring in our air power, f-16 and A-10s and draw a red line in the sand. If Putin soldiers cross the line, take them out. The first thing on my” to do list” is take out the tunnel that allows the Russian army into Georgia. The Russians that already crossed under the bridge will have to abandoned their vehicles and walk back to Russia. Park a carrier group off the coast of Georgia to deal with the blockade. As many of you said your post, our country has a bad habit of abandoning our Friends when the going gets tough. The stakes are way to high to repeat this mistake again.

On a side note: I tried to place a large order for my hurricane preparedness plan and was advised by Mountain House Foods that all the long storage foods were already sold for the rest of the year. I don’t know about the rest of you, but this send up a red flag for me. Something big is in the works!!

just let me back my bags out of Iraq and i can be there in 6 hours!!

  104. Eric

I have never been ashamed to call myself an American until today. For us to just stand by as one of our staunchest allies is invaded and we dont lift a finger makes me sick to my stomach. They had 2,000 troops in Iraq, just to support the U.S but when it comes right down to it we leave them out to dry. Anyone that thinks that America is the defender of world Democrat is living in a dream world. As all of this is happening, the rest of the old eastern block is watching and wondering why the hell did they bother with the U.S in the first place. Russia called our bluff and they were right. We have become a nation of cowards who are willing to sell there friends out just to save a few bucks at the gas pump.It breaks my heart.

  105. billie

First, Russia may not be as militarily dummied-down as some think. She rec’d billions of dollars in aid in the 1990s and much of it was “used improperly,” to quote an old newspaper article. Where did the money go? About five billion showed up in overseas banks. And a Russian scientist once said that foreign money had also been used to build up their fleet of submarines.

Second, Putin and Ahmadinejad are way too cozy. There’s no doubt they have something up their sleeves.

Third, the BTC pipeline in Georgia runs close to the two breakaway regions. It started functioning fully last year, and was partly underwritten by Britain. It doesn’t handle that much oil (one or two percent), but it’s the second longest pipeline in the world.

Fourth, major U.S. strategists are probably in a wait-and-see mode right now. If Iran is able to operate clandeistenly right now because all eyes are on Russia and Georgie, then so can Israel.

  106. Phil Byler

If we don’t go to war with Russia over Georgia now, we will in time need to go to war with Russia somewhere else.

  107. Mike Mose

The Russians are in Georgia for oil control, quite possibly because they know that Iran will be on fire in the near future.
    1. Bush needs to open every square inch of American soil and water for drilling as a National security issue as CIC

    2. Bush/Cheney needs to eliminate Irans military and nuke program……..give time for nato and UN to talk to the Russians.

    3. Start moving in the direction of Georgia after Irans military is devastated.

  108. AmericanJarhead

Seeing as how the Chinese booed the Iranian Olympic team, we ought to get together with China and take on Iran. Then the Russians can figure out how to deal with it.

We should not initiate and attack on Russia. They need to draw first blood.

  109. Dave

    yes.

  110. kevin

We’re going to have to fight the bastards sooner or later, so why not now. Russia has been regressing for years back to their Soviet roots.

  111. Trialdog

Russia’s play is aimed at us. That is for sure. Greater control of oil supply is huge and gives them gigantic advantage. Interesting that Pravada blames the Republicans for their invasion. Putin has exerted a great deal of control over Russian media as he consolidates power. Now, through that media he is trying to influence votes for Hussein by scaring the Kostards that a vote for McCain is a vote for more war in response to Republicans. Why? Because Putin’s desires are not complete with Georgia and if Hussein is elected, Putin knows he can act with impunity, expand further, and grab more strategic assets. Can you even imagine Hussein dealing with Putin over assertive Russian aggression? What a joke. Putin and Hussein sitting at a table discussing Russian military adventure. Putin simply looks at Hussein and says: “You will do nothing and we will do what we want.” Hussein stammers about some nonsense with the U.N. and global warming. Putin stands up and walks out without saying goodbye. Hussein walks out and says the meeting was helpful and though he regrets that Bush and the Republicans started this, its not in our interest to intervene, and this proves we must nationalize the oil industry and force everyone to buy electric cars. Fascinating how such an unbelievably weak candidate like Hussein is viewed by others on the international stage. The aggressive nations are salivating for Donk control of all branches of government here in the U.S. They’ve been sitting back waiting for us to give them power and money while crippling ourselves with nonsensical “Global Warming” treaties and laws, but have become impatient because they spot such utter weakness. Now they are deciding to get ready to take what they want, confident nothing will happen and, in fact, Hussein and the Donks will continue to weaken us on the domestic front through idiotic legislation while disarming our military.

First, declare a No-Fly Zone over Georgia, and enforce it. Send a Carrier Battle Group to do it, which will also break the Russian blockade, even if it means sinking the Black Sea Fleet.

Second, ship every Javelin, AT-4, and MANPAD we can spare to the Georgians, along with trainers.

Third, share all our intel with the Georgians, and help them with planning, logistics, and operations.

When the situation is stabilized, start giving them heavy weapons so they can take back their territory. If the seperatists love Russia so much, let them move there.

Once Georgia is united and free of Russia, set up American bases there and bring them into NATO. Tell Dobby to go fuck himself. Try to set up bases and secure treaties with the other former Soviet republics, especially Ukraine, who should also be made members of NATO ASAP.

I counted at least 56 plain yes’ out of 118 posts.
I did not take the time to read the novels unless I found a yes up front so the number could be higher.

    Wait one…….

Make that 57 (the same number of states in America by Obama’s count) because I echo the words of our Greatest President to date “…the bombing begins in 5 minutes!”

    Semper Fi!!!

  120. Hugh

Unfortunately, we owe the Georgians. This is what the warning was about from George Washington, getting entagled…But here we are.

The whole world is watching us to see if we still really mean what we say and if it means anything at all being our friend and coming to our aid when we ask. If we leave Georgia to die, no matter what we have done in Iraq or Afghanistan, we lose all credibility with our friends. Every country that had the guts to say Fuck Russia and break away to the West is in peril.

So here is what we must do: Give Putin an ultimatum. Immediately pull out all of his forces, and remove them from the border as well, or we will immediately remove Cuba, Venezuala, Nicuragua, and IRAN from Communist control.

  121. AARON

I have been thinking about this all weekend. Putin sees us as weak and is trying to by more time for Iran. He is hoping to win a quick victory in Georgia so that we will think twice about Iran. This is the time where we stand up and up for Georgia! It is time to put our balls to the walls, put up or shut up. If we do not stand up now know one will ever trust us again. We do have extra capacity in the Airforce and Navy. We have plenty of aircraft carrier strike groups in the region. President Bush should he had balls when he authourized the “surge” and he will do it again! We want to strike back on our terms! We are starting to see all of the pieces of the puzzel come together. The shit is going to hit the fan!

  122. AZ Patriot

As far as I’m concerned this is not a matter of if we should, but how soon can we get there.

We as a nation either have integrity or we don’t, we are either an honorable nation or a hypocrite. I just can’t see how we as a nation can say we are honorable and trustworthy and are still the stand up nation that practices the principles our forefathers originally designed our nation to have and yet not do anything.

This is akin to the fire department showing up and just watching you burn to death in your home without even trying to help you, just standing around and saying “Wow somebody should do something about this what do you think Bob?”

This is just making sick to my inner core, WTF has happened to my country, there should not even be a question of helping them, we should all ready be there!
