Record Catfish Caught With Barbie Fishing Pole

August 22nd, 2008 Posted By Pat Dollard.

NBC:

ELKIN, N.C. — A North Carolina man caught a state-record-sized channel catfish with his granddaughter’s Barbie fishing pole.

David Hayes was fishing with his granddaughter, Alyssa, when she had to take a bathroom break in Wilkes County earlier this month.

Hayes held her pink Barbie fishing rod while the girl was gone and quickly snagged a 21-pound channel catfish.

The fish was longer than the pole!

I use a Mickey Mouse pole of the same size for fishing for ‘cat’ in the house. Hours of fun and ‘cat’ just can’t resist it!

Thats the state record? My next door neighbor pulled a cat that size (possibly even bigger) in about 4 wks ago. Central Illinois here.

That fish is bigger than the little girl is. Good thing grandpa was holding on to the rod when it struck.

Probably a record for the type of catfish that it is, some species don’t get very large. I think it’s channel cat that don’t get too big, or blue — not sure.
