The Scoop

ST. PAUL, Minn. - Three celebrity weeklies — OK!, People and Us Weekly — featured Sarah Palin on their cover, but one of those magazines is reportedly losing subscribers because of it.
Us Weekly, which unlike People and OK!, chose a rather caustic cover line (“Babies, Lies and Scandal”) is said to have lost thousands of subscribers in just the first 24 hours following the printing of the issue.
“I’m hearing it’s 5,000, maybe more,” says one well-placed source in the industry. Another source claimed that as many as 10,000 readers have already cancelled their subscriptions. A spokesperson for Wenner Media, which publishes Us, says “it is completely false that we are losing 10,000 subscribers.” As for the 5,000 estimate, the spokesperson only said “that is false, too,” but wouldn’t comment further.
False false false…
Yeah, false cuz they losing more than that (I hope!)
September 5th, 2008 at 8:14 amIt almost makes it tempting to subscribe so that I could cancel it. Maybe an added bonus of Palin’s run will be one less tabloid rag to clutter up the check out isle at the grocery store.
September 5th, 2008 at 8:26 amMy wife buys US mag at the grocery store (about once a month), but will NEVER buy it again.
I saw an interview with the Editor and he lied through his teeth about the cover, claiming the “Lies” meant lies the leftist bloggers were telling. What a punk that guy is.
September 5th, 2008 at 8:36 amLove to see when things like this back-fire on the instigators. It had exactly the opposite effect they were looking for………….LMFAO!
September 5th, 2008 at 8:43 amHeh … fuck ‘em.

The true number is 20,000
September 5th, 2008 at 8:52 amI wish I subscribed so I could dump it. I do turn it over face down in all the stores - just like I have done to Dixie Chicks CDs for five years now.
September 5th, 2008 at 8:54 amNot just a footbullet, but a foot howitzer. nice job, Us Weekly.
September 5th, 2008 at 9:00 amTexas Mom - Thanks for the idea. I believe I shall do the same.

September 5th, 2008 at 9:33 amI’d bet subscription is up at the National Enquierer(sp?). Don’t these guys get it that their own words will come back to bite them? Of course people are cancelling their subscriptions, look at the prime demographic. Women 32 to 50 buy these mags and if you piss them off they will let you know.
Also, these are the same women that have the highest disposable income and if you tax them, they will vote you out. If Osama does win, he’ll screw up the economy and Sarah Palin actually becomes stronger. 2012 would be Palin vs. Osama and he will lose his shirt.
But I don’t think Billary will let Osama win this one.
September 5th, 2008 at 9:33 amHey whatta surprise Wenner Media owns US Weekly
September 5th, 2008 at 11:34 amYes boys & girls that would be Jan Wenner of Rolling Stone magazine , and how many times has Barry Obama been on that cover … F#kin makes me sick
Well my wife is one of those that cancelled her subscription, they tried to argue about refunding the difference since it was a pre-paid subscription. They agreed after about 30 minutes and moving up through supervisors.
September 5th, 2008 at 1:28 pmAgain, the MSM takes themselves out by stupidity.
Can you imagine the newspaper subscription cancellations that will take place in the coming months.
This will be the end of the MSM and a great GOP/Iraqi victory.
September 5th, 2008 at 1:43 pmI dont buy anything. I come here for all my news.
September 5th, 2008 at 2:30 pmTexas Mom do you know how to field dress a moose?????
September 5th, 2008 at 5:45 pmHey “US” if yer’ lookin’ fer sympathy it’s in the dictionary between SHIT and SYPHILIS.
September 5th, 2008 at 7:02 pmVoting with cash, got to love it. We’ve been way to easy on these pricks.
I wonder how Oprah’s doing I wonder how many sponsers she’s about to lose.
September 5th, 2008 at 7:47 pmGoogled Us Weekly their circulation is ~1.85 millon copies per week.
Everyone receives reactions based on their actions.
September 5th, 2008 at 7:53 pmMe and the Missus put a parental block on Oprah. Sure the kids are grown and long gone but it’s like putting a new file folder on your desktop and naming it Obama…hit the delete button and the box reads “Do you really want to delete Obama”
Welllllll…hell yezzz!!

So, it’s a number between 5,000 and 10,000. I hope it is 9,999 and climbing. I predict a sea change in the attitudes of the MSM once a couple of big players (Newsweak, Time, NY Slimes, etc.) find themselves in bankruptcy court.
September 6th, 2008 at 3:42 amStupid libs. They all wanted a female candidate in this election…and now one has emerged. They were looking for a liberal feminazi Oprah-fied do-nothing like Hillary and instead got a bonifide conservative, female, dynamo.
So its only OK for a female to be on the ticket if she comes with the Oprah label. But when she comes with the God,and country label…she’s dissed by libs and NOW.
What a bunch of hypocrates. Fucking libs are always trying to pick up the turd by the clean end and end up with shit on their faces. In this case the turd is the liberal disdain for a female conservative who has pulled herself up by her own bootstraps, taken on a corrupt political system and kicked their asses. All the while she was doing this she is raising a family. Wow and I thought that this was what NOW was all about. You now having it all and being a strong woman and all???
Bullshit. NOW is about liberalism its not about women. Just like US is all about THEM not US.
September 6th, 2008 at 11:49 amLong overdue. Time to answer with your wallet, or purse, as the case may be.
September 6th, 2008 at 2:28 pmWe all need to purchase a copy of Sarah Palin’s biography: “Sarah: How a Hockey Mom Turned Alaska’s Political Establishment Upside Down” by Kaylene Johnson.
September 7th, 2008 at 2:29 amif you happen to be in barnes and nobles or your local grocery store, take a look at the magazines, pick the one you think nobody reads and place it over US WEEKLY. or, if your really frisky, deposit the whole stack in a different location! a little guerilla marketing did wonders for rosie’s rag!
September 7th, 2008 at 6:03 amI am one of the readers of the US Weekly that will never renew or buy a copy of their magazine. Also, Oprah will never come on again on any of my TV’s. She is all for women to rise above the glass ceiling - except if your a republican…..
September 8th, 2008 at 7:06 amWhat a bunch of malarkey. Like the false economy, the MSM is actively delivering a false reality. This is what they would like you to believe. This may be what these fools think they are really pulling off. WAKE UP AMERICA… TAKE BACK AMERICA…
