Appearing on ‘The Daily Show’, Wesley Clark compared our troops in Iraq to “space invaders” who “bust down your doors and rough up your women and throw you on the ground.” Sounds exactly like what John Kerry said two years ago.

What, exactly, did Clark “do” in the Balkans? Depleted nearly our entire cruise missile stockpile blowing up cardboard tank cutouts and shopping malls…killing Serb civilians. He presided over a great big multi-national cluster fuck that was precisely as inefficient as the UN itself, then goes on to miss and ignore his own “lessons learned” in his conclusions and recommendations. Read his auto-biography sometime if you want to see how incomprehensible that man’s logic is.
Remember, he only got his command because he was from Arkansas, like Clinton.

They have never seen anything close to the likes of an American troop wearing night vision goggles, dressed in full combat gear, with rifle and laser scopes running around the cities and crusing arond in heavily armored assault vehicles. You don’t have to have to be the most creative person, but it doesn’t take a HUGE leap of imagination to liken this to a space invader.

Clark isn’t saying that our troops ‘deserve’ to get shot. He is saying that they are so alien to ordniary Iraqis who have typically been sheltered from Western media for so long that they think American soldiers are baby-eating vampires.
From day 1, we tried to represent a force that could not be reckoned with. Blistering tanks, unmatched warplanes, big bombs, dark Oakleys, big guns. You mess with us, you die.
Then we realize that we not only have to defeat the rulers of Iraq, we realize we have to rule their country too. That includes changing our image from almighty foreign not-to-be-fuc*ed with foreign invader to something more personal to our newly freed masses who are now under our protection.
This is where the disconnect lies: establishing trust that we are no long Vlad the Destroyer, but the Gentle Ruling Hand to do what is best for Iraq.
