Maliki: PKK Crisis About To Be Solved
Baghdad, Nov 6, (VOI) – The Iraqi delegation to the Istanbul-based conference for Iraq’s neighboring countries largely succeeded in drawing participants’ attention to the main theme of the conference: the entire Iraqi file, according to an Iraqi parliamentarian who envisioned an imminent solution to the Kurdistan Workers Party’s (PKK) crisis.
“The prime minister promised host Turkey to track down PKK members as stipulated in the constitution. Iraq will not allow armed groups to use its land to attack its neighbors.”
“We believe the PKK’s crisis is on its way to be solved, especially after the conference’s resolutions and the release of the Turkish captives,” Jawwad said.
“Recent considerable efforts by the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) have started to yield results, which positively influenced the Turkish-Iraqi crisis,” he added.
US To Partner With Turkey In Limited Ops:
White House gives green light for assistance in operation against PKK
White House spokesperson Dana Perino has confirmed that talks in Washington between Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan and US President George W. Bush have focused on the arrangement of intelligence efforts from US forces in Iraq aimed at allowing Turkey to engage in an operation against PKK terror forces in Iraq.
In a statement to reporters, Perino noted that high level talks between Turkish and American officials revolved partially around shoring up assistance from the US to Turkey that would allow Turkey to engage in “limited and targeted” action against the PKK presence in northern Iraq. Said Perino “I believe that Ankara has understood our determination to help in the elimination of the PKK.”
