Spitzer Scandal Inspires Late Night Jokes

The great tragedy in the Spitzer story, as I see it, is his wife and kids. I don’t know what kind of relationship he and his wife had (doesn’t excuse his behavior given his position), but his daughters are going to be taking some blows for this.

That ain’t cool.

Other than that, looks to me like if you’re going to walk around saying you are the moral authority, you had better have some morals. This whole thing is his own damned fault.

The greatest downfall of powerful men is that they can’t keep their dick in their pants.

That’s fucking weak. He deserves everything he’s got coming to him, if he truly is guilty.

Found this at Newsbusters…:

Perhaps New York Governor Eliot Spitzer believes he can weather the firestorm over his scandal about his involvement with a high-class prostituion ring. However, he is battling an element that will keep his scandal alive in the public more than the usual political scandal—humor. Spitzer’s breaking scandal is less than a day old and already the media and the blogosphere is filled with many jokes and parody songs about his situation. Even many liberals are laughing at Spitzer since the humor generated by a self-righteous politician involved in a sleazy scandal involving a prostitution ring is just too hard to ignore. David Letterman led off his show with several jokes on this subject:

Do you think it’s too soon to be hitting on Mrs. Eliot Spitzer?

Did you happen to see the press conference? Very dramatic. Eliot Spitzer was there. He had yellow crime scene tape draped around his pants – crazy.

The thinking now is that the governor may step down now to spend less time with his family.

Of course, Letterman later followed up with his Top 10 Eliot Spitzer Excuses. Jay Leno also joined in the joke-cracking fun:

They found the source of all global warming in America: Eliot Spitzer’s pants…

…Hillary Clinton is now only the second angriest woman in the State of New York.”

Stephen Colbert weighed in with this:

Now, the governor was supposed to give a press conference today at 2:15 p.m. but a whole hour passed before he spoke. To be fair, it is daylight savings time and the governor usually has a prostitute change his clocks.

His wife is a liberal hag lawyer and his daughters need to know what a hypocritical, sanctimonious, power mongering fool their father is.

He made his own bed. He made the bed for his family. Although I feel his family should be left out of it, he is the only one to blame for bringing this to his familys table.

  This couldn’t have happened to a more sanctimonious a-ho.

Ever notice how sex scandals tend to involve the politicians who claim to be the most ‘ethical’? Just like how ‘The Most Ethical Congress Ever’ turned out to be the most corrupt and incompetent in history.

The louder a man tells me he’s honest, the tighter I grip my wallet.

Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha. I have to laugh because the NYT’s boy has been taken down. Not only the NYT’s boy, but a most arrogant, narcisistic, power hungry, people-using jerk. He deserves everything he gets. Look at the respectable people he targeted, threatened. Look at the companies he extorted money from, in the name of the State of New York, only to leave those companies’ shareholders holding the bag. He sucks.

Oh, I’m sorry, this is too rich. He was most likely nabbed in an investigation instigated by Patriot Act authorized money laundering investigation techniques. The Patriot Act revised this country’s 1968 wiretap law to incorporate modern technology, like computerized money transfers to off shore accounts, internet/server/email/hacker issues. The Patriot Act lets a wiretap warrant be issued against a particular person or entity, nationwide. Before, for instance, it had to be just against a particular phone number in a particular place (which could prove problematic in this age of disposable phones). Banks fill out reports on suspicious money transfers, especially to offshore accounts, reporting them to Treasury/IRS (Spitzer was using one of these accounts to pay the hookers). This is why liberals like Obama hate the Patriot Act. Not because it invades anyone’s privacy, but because it allows law enforcement to investigate these activities and catch bad guys. The bad guys, whose best alllies are liberals and the trial attorneys, don’t want to be able to be caught.

“Hmm, I need to make my mark on society. Who should I go after? The Mafia? Nah. Terrorists? Whatever. Companies whose taxes fill the state coffers? Yeah, I think I’ll drive them out of business.”
