Just too many cars left un-turned and un-burned …

May 8th, 2008 at 7:10 pmAs a six year employee of Papa John’s #361 here in Columbus, OH; today’s Lebron James special was in my professional opinion a colossal goat-screw.
Personally I would like to smack the shit out of the franchise owner that started this whole debacle, and then to do the same to whichever genius at corporate thought this sale was a good idea.
The long and the short of it was that we had a full staff, and a ridiculous amount of product to sell. We planned ahead, and being the best damn store (361!), in our franchise we thought it would be rough, but we would survive. Survive we did, the 361 has a good crew; but I must say there were a number of times I felt like a Welshman at Roarke’s Drift.
What neither we of the 361, the local franchise demi-gods, nor apparently the Corporate Gods down in Kentucky realized; was a hell of a lot of people are willing to wait upwards of three plus hours in line to get a pizza for 23 cents, and that some of those people would be pissed if they were denied that opportunity.
At around 1730 hrs we literally ran out of product. There was no more dough in the store. That is when things started to get really interesting. Some people in line had a very difficult time understanding that we could not sell them a pizza, because we had no more to sell.
Now of course there are rumors floating around of riots and the like at a few of the stores.
That did not happen per se at the 361, but the police did roll through a few times (due to the crowds), and around 2000hrs or so we had a very nice member of the CPD, standing guard outside our door.
He had been called in on his day off to stand guard outside our store to let people know we were closed, and was to stay at his post until all the staff had left or midnight whichever came last.
Talking to Officer Williams, I gathered two things; first he was not the only CPD officer pulling similar duty, and second that he would have preferred to pack a .45 ACP, but was only allowed to carry .40.
Of course the only reason I am posting this is vanity to be sure. After I got home, began to detune, and relax I fired up the old computer. Lo and Behold I see a mention of an event that I was part of, on Patdollard.com so I had to comment.
What a day.
