Mayor Nickels bans concealed weapons at parks, festivals

Seattle Mayor Greg Nickels has signed an executive order that asks all departments to come up with a plan within 30 days to ban guns at all property owned by the city.
Nickels signed the executive order after the recent shooting at the NW Folklife Festival at Seattle Center that wounded two people.
“At many of our properties, including City Hall, you can bring a gun if you have a concealed weapons permit. Under this order, people with concealed weapons will be asked to leave or hand over their gun.”
It’s a city rule that cannot trump state law. The only thing the city and police can do is kick someone with a gun out of a building or an event.
Nickels says they still need to come up with an enforcement plan, whether it’s pat downs or metal detectors at events like Bumbershoot.
Police Chief Gil Kerlikowske says the mayor’s order will help protect people at civic events.
The mayor’s office says a public hearing will be held to gather comment on Monday’s order but it does not require city council approval.

Someone needs to drill it into these bastards heads that it’s not law abiding CCW holders who commit crimes. Then again that would require them to base a decision on fact and DoJ statistics instead of pandering to the nanny state community.

SEATTLE — The man arrested in a shooting at the Northwest Folklife Festival in Seattle HAS A LICENSE TO CARRY A PISTOL and takes medicine for mental problems.
The 22-year-old Snohomish man, Clinton Chad Grainger, is jailed in Seattle for investigation of assault. Three people were wounded Saturday when Grainger’s gun fired as he was scuffling with another man at the Seattle Center.
Information at his bail hearing Monday disclosed Grainger TAKES MEDICATION FOR ANXIETY AND SCHIZOPHRENIA and has been in a METHODONE MAINTENANCE PROGRAM (heroin abuse).
The Snohomish County sheriff’s office says Grainger was issued a concealed weapons permit in January 2007.
Capt. Kevin Prentiss says when people apply for a concealed gun permit they are asked to disclose serious mental health problems.

You guys got to remember this is the same city that will be charging us 20 cents for paper or plastic bags at the grocery store, increased our sales tax, charging us too much for car tabs oh and now we get to pay sales tax on internet purchases. So this to me isn’t surprising. You walk to pike place liberal central. I walk down there and i want a concealed carry. But i guess it doesn’t help that i wear a Operation Iraqie freedom shirt.

And how will he enforce this? Airport-style security at every public event? How does he plan on paying for that?

Someone failed to note his medical conditions….IF they had reported them properly then they would be in his BACKGROUND DATA…i.e. his criminal ck. The Korean mass murderer in VA and his homicidal insanity was not properly reported by a JUDGE!
IF CCW permit holders are at the event and a nut case starts to whack folks he can be dealt with…without hoping for police to arrive.
Next…HOW WILL THEY ENFORCE THIS ILLEGAL BAN????BY SEARCHING EVERYONE FOR a GUN??????????? Concealed Carry when done properly…means you can not detect the gun on the person!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
