I was watching some of the raw video of combat in the Russian/Georgian war with some Marine friends. Quickly, a feeling began spreading from the center of my chest throughout my whole body and my skin was tingling, flush, and covered with goosebumps. The feeling completely consumed me, it was the only thing I could focus on, the world was blank otherwise, I was agitated, wanted to jump up immediately and get somewhere…because what that feeling was, was the desire to be right there in that battle, right fucking now…but I knew of course, it was the desire to be in any battle, just to be back in that life, and in the middle of a moment just like the one on the screen…and before I could finish saying “Man, this just makes me want to be there..”, someone else began saying the same thing, and we all quickly realized we all felt the same way. We really, really would go there or anywhere like it, on almost any side, just to live it again and again. I know many guys, and I’ve felt the same myself, just don’t really feel re-connected with what home is, and have a lot of desire to keep in the fight, and, it appears, in any fight. One of us who was here tonight returns to Iraq tomorrow. He’s very happy. He wasn’t happy here.

There would be nothing better than the Georgian army embarrasing the Russian army. The entire “We’re back, we’re big, we’re bad” platform that supports Vladimir Putin’s continuing regime and the belligerent, thinly masked anti-U.S. sentiment and policies at its core, would come crashing down like a giant victorian chandelier in a Beacon Hill parlor at the peak seconds of the San Francisco earthquake.
Would make for a lovely sound.

That is how I have felt for quite a few years now. Even now when I try to talk to people about what is happening they still look at me like I am crazy and am wasting my time with much of what I do online. They tell me they have lives to live and do not seem to want to be bothered by anything outside of their immediate day to day routines. I just do not understand them. I feel like an alien most places I go. I only feel at home and at ease with those who see the clear and present danger that is in our midst in every country.

I’ve also noticed that you and your staff give British and other foreign troops credit when they’ve done something notable in Iraq/Afghanistan. They’re not used to this from the Yanks. Or, should I say, from Hollywood. The average European defines us by the unpalatable stereotypes created by American movies and TV series. We can do a lot to change that.

August 9th, 2008 at 3:56 pmFor nearly a year now my contacts have taken on a chronic condition in my eyes. My eyes get highly irritated after a few weeks of wearing the contacts. Then the eyes are so screwed-up looking through my glasses ain’t even right …
So, my eye doc/surgeon recommended the ‘corrective’ surgery. My thing is I’ll need it for monovision, just like my contacts are (one eye near …. one eye distance).
Have any of you had the monovision surgery?
How long ago?
What did your doc tell you about the longevity of the results?
Would you do it again?
Do you STILL need eye glasses at certain times? (Like, when I drive at night and go to the movie theater I don’t wear my contacts because they distort my vision in the poor or lack of lighting) …
Anything you can tell me about your experiences would be welcome.

Drillanwr, the problem with the contacts is an eye infection. Hold on, the probable cause escapes my crowded RAM. When I can reclaim that memory I’ll point you and your Opthamologist toward the antagonist which is new to eye infections but is occurring with frequency lately.
A friend of mine uses the mono vision system. Her depth perception sux. I had implants and after wearing glasses and contacts for 50 years I now only wear reading glasses.
If your able to read with one eye uncorrected have lasik for far vision on the other eye to maintain mono vision.
Do get after the infection. If mono vision with contacts works for you or did until this recent irritation problem stay with it. Cure that damned infection.

As to infection, have had one or two, but my biggest problem is dry-eye, and the contacts end up scratching the hell out of my cornea … like using a friggin’ toothbrush across my eyes … then the inflamation from that.

I had a co-worker hit a deer with a truck. Somehow, the thing survived, but was mangled. Unfortunately, he didn’t have a decent knife or anything on him, so he ended up bashing its skull in to put it out of its misery.
Which apparently pissed off a few people driving by, but they decided not to argue with the very large man holding a bloody pipe.
